Mayor of Legrane Mrs. Alia Meant Minkouss chairs the meeting of the municipality council in Legrane. 
Municipal council meets often to discuss current affairs in the municipality and to approve financing of various projects which would enhance service delivery to its citizens. 
Several projects undertaken by the municipal council have helped remote communities to have access to basic health services, access to town of Legrane by building a stretch of the road in a very difficult rocky area.  Agriculture cooperatives have benefited of irrigation system. 
Legrane is a municipality comprising of many remote and difficult to access villages. It is surrounded by the deserts and road infrastructure is non existent. 
Islamic Republic of Mauritania voted its first decentralization law in 1986 but its implementation started in 1991.
Decentralization transferred extensive responsibilities to the local level especially regarding decision-making and finances. The local level has more autonomy in the use of resources. Municipalities of Kiffa and Legrane have used its resources to invest in various projects to improve infrastructure and provide better services from which its citizens benefit.Credit photo : Amy Sow/GIZ

Traduire en images intelligibles un concept politique relativement méconnu et abstrait pour le plus grand nombre. C’est ainsi qu’on pourrait formuler la problématique posée aux cinq photographes, trois mauritaniens et deux étrangers, qui se sont rendus dans les communes de Kiffa et Legrane en Assaba pour tenter de montrer par des images ce que la décentralisation signifie pour les citoyens de ces communes.
